You can almost feel it in the air around March every year. The call of sunshine and sand begins to flow around college campuses. Concentration gets more difficult; studying falls off the priority list. If you’re already daydreaming about where your next springtime adventure will take you, check out some of the best destinations in the world for spring break.

Las Vegas

While it’s not coastal, Sin City is growing in popularity as a spring break destination. Fabulous luxury hotels, spas, and pools are at your disposal. Because it’s not the first place that comes to mind for most people, you can usually get a sweet deal on a room that beats the beach and leaves you more money to tempt Lady Luck in the casinos. Even on a college student’s budget, you can get a clean, comfortable room at places like the Hilton Grand Vacations on the Boulevard and Embassy Suites Las Vegas. Leave your inhibitions at home and hit the world-famous Strip. You’ll have some incredible memories, but they might not be the kind you can share.

Cabo San Lucas

No list of fabulous spring break havens is complete without at least one Mexican beach. Cabo San Lucas has the white sand and blue water you expect from the Los Cabos stretch, but it also has excellent shopping, reasonably priced hotels, and world-famous bars like the Happy Ending and the Giggling Marlin. Quirky shops like Eclectic Array and Arte de Origin offer unique pieces to take back to your dorm or apartment. When it’s time to feed your body something that’s not in liquid form, hit The Taco Bar or the Omega Sports Bar & Grill.

Key West

Despite the growth of Mexican resorts and cruises to the Bahamas, Florida continues to draw massive spring break crowds. Key West offers a laid back, go with the flow kind of feeling, and it gives you a chance to try new things like paddle boarding and unique trips, like the Key West Mangrove Kayak Eco Tour. For lunch on a budget, get a fantastic grilled cheese or BLT at the Munch Box. When it’s time to dive into the nightlife, start at the Green Parrot Bar, and you never know where the evening will take you from there.

Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico provides all the fun and memories of a trip to Mexico or the Bahamas without dealing with international travel regulations. Use your American dollars to shop, and you can get there in about three hours if you leave from Miami. San Juan, in particular, offers an eclectic mix of activities, from surfing 20-foot waves to dancing in the streets at the La Placita de Santurce. For an inexpensive meal, try hamburger sliders and a beer from Taberna Boricua.

Whether you’re looking for salt water and sunscreen or the ultimate adventure in the night, the world is wide open and full of excellent spring break destinations. Start planning now so you’re ready to hit the road when that last class dismisses.
